Dòigh Nàdair Studio

When I was a kid, I was attracted to painting, hoping some day to take up the artist’s brush. Many years have come and gone until I have finally done so. Watercolour - the magic of its transparency and mingling of colour calls to something deep within me. I am attracted to its “fuzzy edges”, and its simple glow.

My creative streak comes from Mom. Born in a southwestern city in Ontario, she first came to Muskoka as a young woman for summer employment at Windermere House. She fell in love with Muskoka, returning again and again. Dad’s roots went even deeper, as he was born at the farmhouse between Burks Falls and Magnetewan. The beauty of Muskoka always drew him back. They both cottaged and, then, lived on Peninsula Lake, near Huntsville, for many years. My attraction to this beautiful, calming piece of the world has drawn me, in recent years, to make Muskoka my home. I live near Dwight, Ontario, on Fifteen Mile Lake, locally known as Angle Lake, from where I paint.

Each blank piece of paper, and the images around me, draw me into the possibility of each painting. The grand sunsets, and also the small, little places “around each corner” create an excitement within for the swirl of paint, the dance between lights and darks and the beautiful mystery of colour combination that is the world of watercolour. Whether it's a landscape, a town scene, or a cottage lake, Muskoka draws me in with an invitation to capture the moments, soon memories, through painting.

Welcome to my world.
